Apple tv and Fastweb

Apple TV connection and synchronization

Installing Apple tv we encountered connection problems with the fiber Fastweb and ADB Broadband modem
Automatic connection to the local network was happening correctly, desktop mirroring was working it was not possible to connect to the internet and synchronize the time
The problems were encountered on a fiber connection from a customer but are common on Fastweb's type of network and also plague Xbox and Playstation consoles many times

To be able to synchronize the time on our Apple TV (which was blocking access to content) it is necessary to have a public IP address, by requesting it from technical support
The procedure takes a couple of days and you will be notified of activation by the Provider, at which point try the Apple TV again, this should be sufficient.

Configuring Apple TV Static IP Address

In our case although it should not be necessary you also had to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 and UDP ports 123 and 5353 as described Apple in technical support

To do this you should set up a static address on the Apple TV:

  • Settings > General > Network
  • Select the connection type in our case Wi-Fi
  • Select the name of our network
  • Configure TCP/IP > Manually
    • Enter a static ip address such as 192.168.1.253
    • Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    • Router and DNS 192.168.1.254
  • Select End

Open Ports

Now, Open Ports on ADB Broadband DV2200 in case you do not have this model, here you will find the guides for other routers ADB VV4820 and ADB VV2222
Or you can find many guides on the internet by searching for the model of the router you use

Updating AppleTV System from Itunes

If you still can't connect it may be a matter of "firmware" system updates of the Apple TV
It is possible since you can't connect it to the network, update it via iTunes installed on a Windows or Apple PC via USB cable following the wizard
